Sunny Days - a picture post

The dark days of December are here and our diet of daylight is sparse. In early December we start out with 9 hours and by the solstice on December 21st we'll have only 8 hours and 42 minutes of daylight. Compare that to our summer solstice when we will have 15 hours and 40 minutes of daylight. Time for some sunny memories!

Barron Canyon from above - a picture post

Close to the Sand Lake Gate, on the way to the Achray Access Point, there is a hiking trail where you can see Barron Canyon from above. I would like to disclose that it is really hard to capture the true size of these cliffs from above. This is where a drone with a GoPro would be best used to give you a real idea of how goregous this canyon is.

High Falls - a picture post

There are more than one set of High Falls on the Algonquin Park map. However, I think the most popular High Falls is near the Achray access point. There is a 10 km hike in from the access point (which makes 20 km round trip). There's also a shorter route which is about half that distance. I have done each of those hikes once with LT. He's hiked them numerous times.

This High Falls is popular because of the natural waterslide rocks above it. 

So far I haven't tried sliding on the rocks, but some day I will. Here are some pictures:

Bridges - a picture post

It's December 1st, where did November go? I can still get my fix of gorgeous Algonquin photos from various Facebook posts by real photographers - how do they get so close to all those animals? How do they even find them? We have freezing rain coming our way, so even though there's no snow on the ground - it's not far away.

Here are some Algonquin Park pictures, specifically of bridges. All pictures were taken from the canoe or on a portage. Enjoy a little piece of summer!
